Project Objectives
The purpose of Project Argos is to create, mantain and evangelise a platform for the storage and management of data for archeological projects (and other types of project with highly geographic datasets).
The Argos Platform will:
Allow Data to be stored and managed central to provide a single source of truth and allow for security and data integrity, but also
Allow practitions to store, change, update and analyse the data complete on remote machines even without any network connection, and
Allow the data to be stored in any format as requred by the project and the collection and analysis to be performed in (almost) any reasonable toolset as required by the project, and Provide the tools to allow the data to be published if required.
The Argos Platform is best described by what it is not:
It does not involve any software licence charges or maintenance charges or any service charges,
It is totally open source and will use software with the leat restrictive licenses available,
The project does NOT provide servers or other compute or storage services to run the platform, the consuming project are required to provide all such services,
The platform is agnostic to how or where it is hosted (within reasonable limits) and should be available on-prem and off-prem (i.e. cloud) and work with all of the main cloud service providers,
The project will not place (unreasonable) constraints on how the data is stored or how the repository is structured.
